Viet Nam 1969-1970

 

Roi the son of James and Elizabeth McCabe was called up for National Service in 1967 and was posted to Papakura to the 16 Field Reg LAD.  In 1968 he joined the Australian Army in Western Australia.  He was posted to Viet Nam in 1969 and served with the 6 Bn RAR (Anzac Bn) as a visual tracker with the Tracking Platoon.  Later, he was posted to an Infantry Platoon with the 8 Bn RAR as a section commander.  He returned from active duty to Australia in November 1970.  On his return to New Zealand in 1974 he served in the 3 Auckland and Northland Bn, Reconnaissance Platoon as Platoon Sergeant/Platoon comd.
